Heartflow is a medical technology company advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, the #1 cause of death worldwide, using cutting-edge technology. The flagship product—an AI-driven, non-invasive cardiac test supported by the ACC/AHA Chest Pain Guidelines called the Heartflow FFRCT Analysis—provides a color-coded, 3D model of a patient’s coronary arteries indicating the impact blockages have on blood flow to the heart. Heartflow is the first AI-driven non-invasive integrated heart care solution across the CCTA pathway that helps clinicians identify stenoses in the coronary arteries (RoadMap™Analysis), assess coronary blood flow (FFRCT Analysis), and characterize and quantify coronary atherosclerosis (Plaque Analysis). Our pipeline of products is growing and so is our team; join us in helping to revolutionize precision heartcare.

Heartflow is a publicly traded company (HTFL) that has received international recognition for exceptional strides in healthcare innovation, is supported by medical societies around the world, cleared for use in the US, UK, Europe, Japan and Canada, and has been used for more than 400,000 patients worldwide.

Heartflow is transforming cardiovascular care with cutting-edge, non-invasive technology. We are launching a massive Platform Modernization initiative to power the next generation of our life-saving medical products.

Are you a seasoned platform engineer passionate about cloud-native technologies and large-scale migrations? Do you thrive on solving complex compute challenges by leveraging the power of Kubernetes? Join our dynamic Infrastructure Platform team and help us drive a critical initiative to modernize our event-driven serverless and containerized workflows!

Job Responsibilities

We're looking for an experienced Staff Platform Engineer, specializing in Compute Migration, to lead the strategic effort to migrate all of our existing AWS Lambda and ECS-based workloads to our next-generation Kubernetes platform. This is a high-impact role where you will design, implement, and govern the transition of business-critical, event-based workflows, ensuring they are optimized for performance, cost, reliability, and security within our K8s environment.

This role requires deep expertise in both current (Lambda, ECS) and target (Kubernetes) compute architectures, as well as a strong focus on automation and developer experience.

  • Define the technical roadmap, migration patterns, and reference architectures for moving Lambda functions and ECS services to our self-managed or managed Kubernetes clusters on AWS EKS.
  • Develop robust, scalable, and automated solutions for running event-driven, serverless-like workflows on Kubernetes, potentially utilizing technologies like KEDA or similar cloud-native tools.
  • Use Terraform/Terragrunt and Helm to build and manage the necessary underlying Kubernetes infrastructure, networking, and deployment tooling.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to understand their unique workload requirements, provide consultation on re-platforming best practices, and develop standardized tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines) for easy migration and deployment.
  • Benchmark migrated services, optimize resource requests/limits, and implement advanced observability (monitoring, logging, tracing) solutions to ensure parity or improvement in service SLOs.
  • Establish best practices, guardrails, and documentation for running event-based compute on Kubernetes to ensure a smooth transition and sustainable operation post-migration.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Platform, Infrastructure, or DevOps Engineering roles, with significant time spent on large-scale compute migrations.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Kubernetes (design, deployment, operations, networking, security, and scaling).
  • Deep, hands-on experience with AWS compute services, particularly AWS Lambda and ECS/Fargate, and a clear understanding of their operational models and scaling behaviors.
  • Proven experience migrating production workloads from traditional cloud compute (VMs, Lambdas, ECS) to Kubernetes.
  • Strong background in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), specifically Terraform.
  • Proficiency with containerization technologies (Docker) and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and technical leadership skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across multiple teams.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with KEDA or similar event-driven scaling solutions on Kubernetes.
  • Experience working in and/or migrating to monorepo.
  • Prior experience in a Staff or Principal-level role, driving complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives.
  • Experience with Python or Go for tooling development and automation.
