Heartflow is a medical technology company advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, the #1 cause of death worldwide, using cutting-edge technology. The flagship product—an AI-driven, non-invasive cardiac test supported by the ACC/AHA Chest Pain Guidelines called the Heartflow FFRCT Analysis—provides a color-coded, 3D model of a patient’s coronary arteries indicating the impact blockages have on blood flow to the heart. Heartflow is the first AI-driven non-invasive integrated heart care solution across the CCTA pathway that helps clinicians identify stenoses in the coronary arteries (RoadMap™Analysis), assess coronary blood flow (FFRCT Analysis), and characterize and quantify coronary atherosclerosis (Plaque Analysis). Our pipeline of products is growing and so is our team; join us in helping to revolutionize precision heartcare.
Heartflow is a publicly traded company (HTFL) that has received international recognition for exceptional strides in healthcare innovation, is supported by medical societies around the world, cleared for use in the US, UK, Europe, Japan and Canada, and has been used for more than 500,000 patients worldwide.
This position plays a key engineering role in realizing HeartFlow’s vision of creating a single, comprehensive platform to manage heart disease. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help design and build the architecture and data modeling for a next-generation distributed system that seamlessly and securely integrates HeartFlow’s cloud services with complex, on-premise hospital Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
You will own the design and delivery of significant components within the interoperability domain, improving how clinical data is processed, modeled, and delivered. Operating at the senior level, you will contribute to architectural decisions for key components, mentor more junior engineers, and apply robust software development best practices.
You will help ensure that the platform’s foundation scales efficiently and adheres to the compliance, security, and quality standards set forth by the FDA and other regulatory bodies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design & Build EHR Integration: Design and develop HeartFlow’s interoperability services. You will help design the technical bridge between complex, on-premise hospital Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and our AWS cloud environment.
- Contribute to the Single Platform Vision: Implement data modeling and persistence strategies. You will help structure complex clinical data to support our vision of a comprehensive, unified platform for managing heart disease.
- Own Mission-Critical Components: Build and maintain critical data acquisition and ingestion pipelines, ensuring the seamless, scalable, and secure extraction and normalization of patient data from diverse hospital networks.
- Build Enterprise-Grade APIs: Build highly reliable, secure, and low-maintenance APIs (leveraging REST alongside healthcare standards like FHIR and HL7) to securely connect on-premise hospital components to our cloud infrastructure.
- Support Compliance & Security: Follow software development best practices and ensure your data flows and system integrations adhere to the standards and guidance set forth by the FDA and other regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate & Mentor: Join a team of high-performing engineers on a mission to revolutionize precision heart care. You will mentor more junior engineers and contribute to system design discussions.
Skills Needed:
You have experience in the following:
- Software Engineering & Architecture: Strong Python development proficiency, applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles, and architecting robust microservices and event-driven architectures at scale.
- Healthcare Interoperability: Integrating with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and utilizing healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7).
- Data Strategy: data modeling and architecting scalable persistence layers for complex, high-volume data systems.
- Cloud & Connectivity: Building within modern cloud ecosystems and designing secure RESTful APIs and applications.
- Technical Leadership: Mentoring engineers, contributing to system design, and establishing rigorous software development best practices and testing strategies.
- Quality Assurance: Designing testable systems and leading comprehensive testing strategies (Unit, Functional, and System-level) for mission-critical applications.
You are passionate about:
- Platform Vision: Realizing the vision of a single, unified platform to manage and treat heart disease.
- Engineering Excellence: Championing high-quality software, rigorous development processes, and elevating the technical baseline of the entire team.
- Ownership: Taking ownership of features and components, operating with autonomy within your area while growing toward broader architectural responsibility.
- Constructive Collaboration: Fostering a culture of open communication, speaking up when faced with challenges, and guiding healthy technical debates.
- Innovation: Pragmatically evaluating and applying state-of-the-art technologies to solve complex interoperability and scaling challenges.
You are excited to dive deeper into:
- Domain Expertise: Advancing the frontier of Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and data acquisition in the cardiology space.
- Regulatory Innovation: Navigating and innovating within strict regulatory environments (FDA, HIPAA) to securely deliver life-saving medical applications.
- System Resilience: Solving novel challenges in distributed, highly available, and resilient systems for mission-critical healthcare operations.
Educational Requirements & Work Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 8+ years of relevant industry experience
A reasonable estimate of the base salary compensation range is $180,000 to $215,000, bonus, and equity. #LI-IB1
