Medical Records Clerk

Location: Remote
Compensation: $19/hr - $21/hr
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hr/Week

Purpose of the Position:
The Medical Records Clerk ensures compliance with all medical record information while maintaining quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic filing systems.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
The following functions have been determined by Ideal Option to be essential to the successful performance of this position which includes but is not limited to:
- Reviews all incoming Release of Information forms and verifies all elements are completed.??
- Responds to requests for medical records; processes letters of compliance and reports; answers and directs telephone calls for the Medical Records Department.??
- Maintains communication and uploads requests to third party processing vendors.
- Processes records for insurance and billing claims.
- Answers calls from clinic staff pertaining to medical records.??
- Keeps direct supervisor informed of problems or issues, monitors supplies needed; performs other duties as assigned.??
- Complies with Federal law, HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations, in addition to company policies and procedures to maintain the privacy and integrity of protected health information.??
- Explains the law and our privacy policy to individuals as needed.??
- Maintains appropriate documentation of access to all medical records.??
- Other projects and duties as assigned.??
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and Internet.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work independently
Education:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
Required:
- A minimum of one-year experience in a medical office setting.
- A minimum of one-year experience with processing medical records requests
Preferred:
- Experience processing medical record requests for outpatient SUD treatment programs and knowledge of 42 CFR Part 2.
Physical Demands:
- General office environment: This position is remote.
- Periods of stress may occur.
- Activities require a significant amount of sitting at work desks and in front of a computer monitor.
