Position:

Sr. Software Engineer

Position Summary:

We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join an AI Agent team, working across the core agent service, conversation processing, and voice/text bot capabilities that power Tom's conversations with patients and providers.

This is a true full-stack role. Our engineers move fluidly across front-end, back-end, database, and infrastructure work rather than staying in one lane — and this role is built the same way. You'll work closely with our product team and our prompt engineering team as part of the day-to-day.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Delivers well-tested, peer-reviewed work on time, taking ownership of the quality of what ships and helping resolve issues and errors as they arise.
  • Participates in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to coding and testing, working with cross-functional teams in a highly collaborative environment (Development Leads, Architects, Quality Engineers, DBAs, Product Managers, and Healthcare experts)
  • Participates in a weekly on-call rotation, responding to production incidents and coordinating release and change management — including presenting production changes to a broader review group and coordinating testing and hotfixes with QA.
  • Develops AI-enabled applications using Python and React.
  • Integrates Generative AI APIs such as OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Vertex AI.
  • Evaluates the quality, safety, latency, and cost of generative AI functionality using appropriate testing and evaluation practices.
  • Develops the data access layer that interfaces with cloud databases such as Google Cloud SQL, Amazon Aurora, and PostgreSQL.
  • Develops the skills of colleagues through peer collaboration, mentoring, and code review as they grow into the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/ relevant field or equivalent
  • 5 or more years of software development experience in an enterprise environment, with a proven track record of delivering production software, or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role.
  • Experience building AI-based applications and integrating Generative AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Bedrock, Vertex AI).
  • Hands-on cloud experience; Google Cloud Platform strongly preferred, AWS experience also valuable.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Object Oriented Programming techniques and methodologies in Java, web MVC frameworks, Responsive web design, RESTful web services that meet industry standard maturity models, and schema design/data access methodologies in both relational databases and NoSQL databases

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in the healthcare industry
  • Hands-on experience in the Cloud; specifically GCP
  • Hands-on experience with Open-Source projects
  • DevOps exposure, including CI/CD pipelines and application observability (logging, metrics, tracing).
  • Experience with containers and container orchestration (e.g., Docker).
