Job Title: Director, People Operations

At Octave Bioscience, we recognize the fundamental importance of our Director of People Operations. We are seeking an exceptional leader to join us in this vital position. This multifaceted position combines strategic human capital management with hands-on operational expertise. We're looking for a forward-thinking, people-focused professional who can architect scalable solutions while fostering an environment where our team members can thrive and deliver their best work. This position will report to Octave’s Chief Executive Officer and will partner with Finance, EA/Office Manager, and outsourced consultants to achieve successful results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and enhance all HR operations, including benefits administration, policy development, and compliance
  • Partner with the leadership team to develop and execute people strategies that support business objectives and ensure high employee engagement
  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment process, including job posting, candidate screening, and onboarding
  • Manage and maintain job descriptions, organizational structure, and career development frameworks
  • Support comprehensive performance management systems, including review cycles, feedback mechanisms, and development planning
  • Maintain and support the company's OKR framework, ensuring alignment across departments and providing training and support for effective goal-setting and tracking
  • Develop and manage total rewards strategy, including compensation philosophy, salary bands, bonus structures, and equity programs
  • Administer and optimize employee benefits programs, including annual renewals and employee education
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Create and manage internal communication channels and intranet content related to HR initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Build and maintain HR metrics and reporting systems
  • Provide guidance and support to managers on employee relations matters

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. They will be proactive, resourceful, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other relevant software is essential.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior role
  • Experience scaling HR operations in a high-growth environment
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state and California employment laws and HR best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in benefits administration and HRIS management
  • Excellence in building and maintaining HR processes and documentation
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities
  • Experience with HRIS and ATS platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the biotechnology or life sciences industry preferred
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP certification
  • Experience with change management and organizational development
  • Knowledge of DEI best practices and programs
  • Experience with HR analytics and reporting
