AI/ML Intern, Document Intelligence
Smart Data Solutions, a leading provider of data management, claim routing and workflow solutions to health plans and TPAs, is looking for a AI/ML Intern, Document Intelligence to join our team!
What you’ll be doing?
- Build and evaluate ML models for extracting structured data from pharma documents (clinical forms, prescriptions, regulatory filings)
- Develop OCR/OMR pipelines and experiment with text extraction techniques
- Explore LLM integration using LangChain-prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation
- Support data preparation: cleaning, annotation, and labelling for NLP datasets
- Write clean Python code; contribute to shared codebases with guidance from senior engineers
What we’re looking for?
- Individuals pursuing or recently completed a degree in CS, AI/ML, or related field
- Solid Python skills; familiarity with at least one ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Hugging Face Transformers)
- Coursework or project experience in NLP, computer vision, or document processing
- Curiosity about LLMs and how they're applied in real systems
- Comfortable asking questions and learning from feedback
Nice-to-have skills
- Exposure to OCR tools (Tesseract, PaddleOCR, EasyOCR)
- Interest in healthcare/biomedical AI applications
- Any experience with LangChain, vector databases, or prompt engineering
